Our Organization

Founded in December 2017, we are a not-for-profit, 501(c)(4) Maryland corporation comprised of highly dedicated volunteers focused on passage of the Maryland End-of-Life Option Act

Michael J. Strauss, MD, MPH

President
Dr. Strauss is a retired internist, physician executive and entrepreneur whose career has focused on new medical technology and health policy. A lifetime Maryland resident, he has both led and advised health care enterprises, and served as a board director, in the private and public sectors. Dr. Strauss became an advocate for medical aid in dying in part because of his experience caring for terminally ill patients, but also because he watched his 90-year-old mother suffer needlessly at the end of her life, asking for medical aid in dying.

Sally Hunt

Vice President

Sally Hunt is a lifetime resident of Maryland. She retired several years ago from a 35-year career in business operations, project management, software development, system analysis, and customer support. As a strong believer in individual autonomy, Ms. Hunt has spent her retirement years actively working as an advocate for medical aid in dying. From the time she was a young adult she knew that she wanted to die on her own terms and not linger when suffering and unable to enjoy the quality of life that is so important to her. Ms. Hunt passionately believes that the terminally ill in Maryland should have the option of medical aid in dying so they can control the end of their lives.

Richard Fredricks

Secretary/Treasurer
Richard Fredricks continues his more than fifty-year business career in the international fields of marine salvage, rescue towing, firefighting, wreck removal and environmental protection. A resident of Maryland for the past twenty-seven years, Mr. Fredricks is an advocate for medical aid in dying as a result of his heartfelt belief that all people deserve control over their life, including the end of their life. Mr. Fredricks is committed to never stop supporting MDELO’s efforts until the desired medical aid-in-dying legislation has been secured.
